About Wetherby
Country : England
Region : Yorkshire and Humberside
County : North Yorkshire
Population : 26 473 (2001 Census)

The charming historic town of Wetherby is situated on the banks of the River Wharfe and centred in the Yorkshire triangle of Leeds, York and Harrogate. Winner of the Britain in Bloom Award for 1998, Wetherby represented Britain in the 1999 European "Entente Florale" - and won the coveted gold medal. In 2002 Wetherby received a silver gilt award in the Britain in Bloom town category.

Wetherby's origins are as a staging post through the centuries for travellers between London and Edinburgh. Now it has developed into a busy market town, but still retains its Thursday Market, granted by Royal Charter in 1240.
Wetherby is a traditional Yorkshire Market Town, where small specialist shops still can be found, interspersed with small restaurants, cafes, and tearooms which make it a pleasant place to stroll round all day. It's riverside area is just right to relax in, it's fish and chips renowned.
Wetherby is very proud to have it's own Bandstand in a picturesque setting alongside the river Wharfe. The bandstand was built and completed in the year 2000, and was built by volunteers, with money raised by the people of Wetherby.
The Bandstand is maintained and run by the Wetherby Riverside Bandstand Trust, who organise a full concert programme of Brass Bands to play on the Bandstand every Sunday from May to September.
