In the background, the wonderful Selby Abbey
( birthplace of King Henry 1 )
Selby has a tradition as a centre for local agriculture, and the River Ouse and tranquil Selby canal are reminders of Selby’s former position as one of Yorkshire’s busiest trading towns.

Selby Abbey is unique in the North of England, as the first monastery to be founded in the North after the Norman Conquest and one of the few in England to have survived as a parish church.  The Abbey was granted its founding charter by William the Conqueror and has connections with France, Germany and the USA.  Selby Park
The park is conveniently situated in the centre of Selby. The five acres of gardens includes a variety of decorative planting, a small children’s play area, a bowls green, mini golf, and an area with picnic tables and seating. In the summer a bouncy castle is available for hire and concerts take place on the bandstand.
