About Ilkley

North Yorkshire
District : Bradford
Population : 13 878 (census 2001)
Set on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, the spa town of Ilkley (population 14,000) is right at the heart of Wharfedale. Its tree-lined shopping streets and many fine buildings reflect the town's heyday as a popular Victorian spa.

Although that leisured age has passed, Ilkley retains much of its original character and is still an attractive holiday resort as well as a commuter town.

Ilkley is surrounded by fine unspoiled scenery,
with Ilkley Moor and the famous Cow and Calf rocks positioned just above the town.

Ilkla Moor Baht 'At!
Ilkley is the town immortalised by Yorkshire's national anthem, the words of which were composed - according to tradition - by a church choir from Halifax during a jocular picnic beneath the Cow and Calf Rocks.  ( This is Bradford.Co.UK )
The Grove is a Victorian tree-lined street of high quality shops (including Betty's Tea Rooms) nestling under Ilkey Moor and less than 5 minutes walk from the bridge over the River Wharfe. (Welcome to The Grove Bookshop)
Television's Richard gets new bandstand off with a swing

Television star Richard Whiteley put on the style as he officially opened Ilkley's new bandstand.

Big crowds gathered in The Grove as he cut the ribbon which marked the culmination of the town's Rotary Club appeal to bring the outdoor music venue to reality.

Later the quizmaster of TV's famous Countdown programme conducted musicians from the Ilkley Music Centre.

The bandstand, situated on The Grove, is already helping to give pleasure to residents. It is available at weekends and on summer evenings.
Bands, singers and musicians are invited  to perform on this beautiful landmark. The Grove is Ilkley's most prominent thoroughfare and a great venue for up and coming bands.
