The bandstand
in the Crescent Gardens, by Mel Playforth
There has almost
always been a bandstand in the Crescent gardens, sited both in the position
of the present one and slightly to the east where the sun lounge used to
be. The present bandstand is a recent addition to the Crescent gardens
and was funded by Filey Rotary Club. An attractive addition to the
Gardens it can provide an idyllic setting to listen to the visiting bands
during the balmy hot days of summer.

In winter however, with a Nor' easter blowing off the North Sea, it can
be a somewhat different experience! The Crescent Gardens were once
privately owned, belonging to the well heeled Victorian owners of the grand
white fronted buildings that line The Crescent. They were eventually
purchased by the old Filey Urban Dsitrict Council, who opened them up to
the public. It is still possible today to walk all the way across
Filey, from north to south, using only public parks and gardens.
