About Mayfield Village
Country : United States of America
State : Ohio
County : Cuyahoga
Population:3.435 (census 2000
Mayfield Village is an eastern suburb in the Cleveland metropolitan area, located about 14 miles from the city center. It was one of several settlements within Mayfield Township until 1921, when voters elected to subdivide the township into four independently governed villages.
The first settlers here were several families from Ontario County in New York, arriving in 1805. Farming, dairy and orchard-growing interests remained the keystone of the local economy into the 20th century.
The security of employment opportunities in Cleveland’s thriving factories caused a gradual decline in population after 1850, but the situation would eventually reverse with the metropolitan expansion following the Great Depression and World War II arriving at the village gates. By then the village had adopted zoning ordinances that limited industrial and commercial land use in favor of development as a residential community.
Mayfield Village is a small community of just over 4 square miles (11 square kilometers) in size. However the village is rich in beauty and recreational facilities,
which include a portion of the scenic North Chagrin Reservation of the Cleveland MetroParks System together with a public golf course and racquet club.
The bandstand at Mayfield Village is located at what has always been the main crossroads of the town.
Today that intersection includes the town hall

some of the older historic buildings in the
community (including a church and school), and a busy shopping center.

The bandstand site is in a small park adjacent to the town hall. It is one of the newer additions to the cultural life in Mayfield, having been built in 1990. A summer series of concerts are now held here regularly, and the bandstand also serves as a meeting place for other community festivities. It is seasonally decorated and shown here is a Christmas choral program by the village schoolchildren that is part of the tree lighting ceremonies held each Christmastime at the bandstand.
