Cobh
 About Cobh
Country : Ireland
Province : Munster
County : Cork
Population : 6 517
( 2006 - Town )

The Heritage Town of Cobh is located on Great Island,
which is in a prominent position at the heart of Cork Harbour, 25km from the City of Cork.
The island and the town are linked to the mainland by the R624,
which runs Southwards from the N25
and by a direct rail link to Kent Station in Cork City.

The town has a proud maritime heritage.
Cobh was the main embarkation point
for the millions of Irish who left these
shores in the Nineteenth and Twentieth Centuries in search of a better life.

Cobh was the final stop off for the doomed Titanic on its fatal voyage; 123 passengers boarded the ship in Cobh.

Cobh is also the final resting place of many of the victims of the Lusitania sinking in 1915.

The bandstand, located in Cobh's John Fitzgerald Kennedy Park,
was manufactured by Walter Macfarlane & Co in the Saracen Foundry, Glasgow, Scotland. This is a focal point for many local events in Cobh and, although dedicated recently to the memory of the late Councillor Pat O’Mahony, is a reminder of different times.
